Legend of Saint Vitus
According to tradition, the young Christian Veit was thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil and emerged unscathed - his martyrdom occurred around 304/305. The legend goes back, among other things, to the “Legenda Aurea” by Jacobus de Voragine.
